چکیده

Content-Centric Networking (CCN) has an in-network caching mechanism, which can reduce the traffic volume along the route to the destination host. This traffic volume reduction on the transit link can decrease inter-ISP transit cost. However, the memory space for caching in CCN routers is small relative to content volume. In addition, any initial access to the content requested by a user must use the transit link, even when a nearby CCN router outside the route has the cached content. In this paper, we propose a method of cooperative cache sharing among CCN routers in multiple ISPs. It aims to attain a further reduction in the inter-ISP transit cost by improving the cache hit ratio. In the proposed method, the CCN routers share the memory space for caching of non-overlapping cache content. We evaluate the proposed method by simulation experiments using the IP-level network topology of actual ISP, and show that the inter-ISP transit traffic can be reduced by up to 28% compared with normal caching behavior of CCN. key words: Content-Centric Networking, in-network caching, cache sharing, inter-ISP transit cost

Content Delivery Mechanism for ISP

Most CDNs pay more attention to CSP (Content Service Provider) to gain more profit from faster access rate and lower server load. However they ignore that the CDNs pay the ISPs (Internet Service Provider) for using the underlying networks based on the traffic volume generated by CDN servers. ISPs expect to save their operational cost from inter-ISP traffic and improve the QoS (Quality of Servic...

Service Routing in Multi-ISP Peer-to-Peer Content Distribution: Local or Remote?

The popularity of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing has resulted in large flows between different ISPs, which imposes significant transit fees on the ISPs in whose domains the communicating peers are located. The fundamental tradeoff faced by a peer-swarm is between free, yet delayed content exchange between intra-domain peers, and interdomain communication of content, which results in transit fe...

Optimization of Content Caching in Content-Centric Network

Video on demand (VoD) systems currently use content delivery networks (CDN) to feed content to users, whose performance and effectiveness depends on the architecture, the number and the geographical location of CDN nodes deployed by CDN providers or ISP(s) itself. Content-Centric Networking (CCN), with the benefits of caching and sharing content by every node in the network, suggests an alterna...

Hybrid multi-tenant cache management for virtualized ISP networks

In recent years, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have started to deploy Telco Content Delivery Networks (Telco CDNs) to reduce the pressure on their network resources. The deployment of Telco CDNs results in reduced ISP bandwidth utilization and improved service quality by bringing the content closer to the end-users. Furthermore, virtualization of storage and networking resources can open up...

A Stochastic Analytical Modelling Framework on ISP-P2P Collaborations in Multi-domain Environments

Cooperation between peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays and underlying networks has been proposed as an effective approach to improve the efficiency of both the applications and the underlying networks. However, fundamental characteristics with respect to ISP business relationships and inter-ISP routing information are not sufficiently investigated in the context of collaborative ISP-P2P paradigms in m...
